16 Oct Despise Not Small Beginnings
One Saturday morning, in the fall of 2015, I was sitting in a doctoral class completing an assignment that required me to creatively introduce myself to my fellow classmates. We had to share something about ourselves that had not been shared over the past three months we had gotten to know each other intimately. I had no idea that I would be forced to expose myself in a way that served as the foundation of my book, The Metamorphic Journey.
There was no need to ponder long on this quick assignment. So, there I was. In the classroom, letting my ink pen flow effervescently on my paper. The end result was a poem similar to this:
They say I’m having a baby.
That is not the news I expected to hear today.
I will persevere through every test
Despite the many obstacles in my way.
I am more than a conqueror;
No matter what statistics or society may say.
That moment of hesitation opened the door for my classmates to know me on a deeper level while serving as the catalyst for my journey as an author. Sometimes we talk ourselves out of the very thing that can change our lives and the lives of others.
To start anything is no easy feat but the end result of making the first move is so necessary.
Do not despise small beginnings.
Walk in it. Head up high and all of the authority that already rest upon you.
