My First Born

My First Born

24 years ago today, I gave birth to a handsome baby boy. I was 16 when he was conceived, 17 when he was born, just starting my senior year of high school. I knew my life would forever be changed but the degree to which he would impact my life was unknown to me.

Thanks to you, Thomas, I was still able to achieve every dream and so much more. I know I have told you many times to not depend on your smile to get you everywhere.  But, guess what, your smile is what kept me going. I never wanted to disappoint you or make you feel you could not have it all because your mom was a teen when she had you. With every milestone I achieved I knew I could depend on your smile to get me through the next leg of the race.

Thank you for supporting me through five college degrees and one of my newest accomplishments of Chief Financial Officer in a county many miles away from you. They call me Dr. Dee and you simply call me Mom. A name I cherish; primarily because, at 16, I did not know how this story would unfold.

As I embark upon, yet another accomplishment as author, I thank you for being the inspiration behind The Metamorphic Journey. I will miss seeing your sunshiny face on September 29th as I share this accomplishment with many from far and near but I also know that I have to allow you those opportunities to spread your wings. Continue to reach for the stars and dare to dream.

Happy Birthday Son.

Love always,

Mom
